This easy homemade chicken gravy is rich, silky, and bursting with comforting flavor. Made from pantry staples, it’s the perfect sauce for chicken, mashed potatoes, or vegetables—no drippings needed!
Crumble chicken and beef stock cubes into the boiling water. Stir until completely dissolved.
Melt butter in a saucepan over medium heat. Add flour, onion powder, and black pepper. Whisk continuously until smooth and lightly golden.
Slowly pour in half the hot stock, whisking constantly to prevent lumps. Once smooth, add the remaining stock.
Continue to simmer and whisk for 2–3 minutes, until the gravy thickens to your desired consistency.
Taste and season with salt if needed. If too thick, thin with a splash of hot water.
Serve warm over mashed potatoes, chicken, vegetables, or anything that needs a comforting, savory finish.
Notes
For a richer color and deeper flavor, add a splash of dark soy sauce. Use freshly boiled water to dissolve stock cubes easily. Store leftovers in an airtight container and reheat gently with added water if needed.
