Equipment

  • Saucepan
  • Whisk
  • Measuring Cups

Ingredients

Main Ingredients

  • 1 chicken stock cube
  • 1 beef stock cube
  • 2.25 cups boiling water
  • 4 tbsp unsalted butter
  • 4 tbsp all-purpose flour
  • 0.5 tsp onion powder
  • 0.25 tsp black pepper
  • salt to taste

Instructions

  • Crumble chicken and beef stock cubes into the boiling water. Stir until completely dissolved.
  • Melt butter in a saucepan over medium heat. Add flour, onion powder, and black pepper. Whisk continuously until smooth and lightly golden.
  • Slowly pour in half the hot stock, whisking constantly to prevent lumps. Once smooth, add the remaining stock.
  • Continue to simmer and whisk for 2–3 minutes, until the gravy thickens to your desired consistency.
  • Taste and season with salt if needed. If too thick, thin with a splash of hot water.
  • Serve warm over mashed potatoes, chicken, vegetables, or anything that needs a comforting, savory finish.

Notes

For a richer color and deeper flavor, add a splash of dark soy sauce. Use freshly boiled water to dissolve stock cubes easily. Store leftovers in an airtight container and reheat gently with added water if needed.
