Equipment

  • 9x13 Baking Dish
  • Mixing Bowls
  • Whisk
  • Spoon Handle or Skewer

Ingredients

Cake Base

  • 1 box chocolate cake mix plus ingredients to prepare as directed
  • 1 cup hot fudge warmed until pourable

Pudding Layer

  • 2 packages instant chocolate pudding mix (3.9 oz each)
  • 3 cups milk cold
  • 1 container Cool Whip thawed (8 oz)

Topping

  • 1 package Oreos crushed, divided (about 36 cookies)

Instructions

  • Bake the chocolate cake as directed on the box. Let it cool for 10 minutes, then poke holes all over the surface with the handle of a spoon.
  • Warm the hot fudge and pour it evenly over the cake, letting it seep into the holes. Let the cake cool completely.
  • In a bowl, whisk together 1 package of chocolate pudding and 1.5 cups of cold milk. Pour over the cooled cake. Chill for 20 minutes.
  • Whisk the second pudding packet with the remaining milk and refrigerate until set (about 10 minutes). Fold in Cool Whip and ¾ of the crushed Oreos.
  • Spread the pudding-Cool Whip mixture over the cake. Sprinkle the remaining Oreos on top.
  • Chill for at least 2 hours, or until ready to serve. Enjoy chilled for best texture.

Notes

For added fun, top with gummy worms for a classic kids' party version. Can be made a day ahead and stored chilled. Not recommended for freezing due to texture changes.
